Let’s get one thing straight first: you do not need to speak Korean to get a facial in Seoul. Estheticians here work with international visitors every day, and the treatment itself is mostly quiet, guided work.
But here’s what regulars know — a few words in Korean change the mood in the room. Staff light up, the small adjustments happen faster, and the visit stops feeling like a transaction. These are the ten phrases actually worth knowing, with pronunciation you can read out loud.
The phrases

How to not worry about pronunciation
Read the romanization slowly, syllable by syllable, and don’t stress about getting it exact — context does most of the work. You’re in a treatment chair pointing at a steam towel; “tteu-geo-wo-yo” will land even if your vowels wobble. Korean staff are used to hearing these phrases with every accent imaginable, and the attempt itself is what earns the smile.
One rhythm tip: Korean syllables get even weight. Say “jo-geum ya-ka-ge” like a drumbeat — three, then three — not like an English word with one stressed syllable.
And for everything else
Ten phrases cover the treatment room. They don’t cover “do you have availability Thursday?”, “is this treatment okay for rosacea?”, or “how much is the package?” — the questions you actually need answered before you go.
For those, don’t memorize anything. Message the spa in your own language, and they’ll reply in theirs — the translation happens in the middle. Ask your real questions, get real answers, then walk in already knowing what to expect.
